For older version of Pro Tools, you can still download the plug-ins in RTAS format. This, again, is because of Pro Tools' studio heritage. While you can plug in practically any audio interface into Ableton and get up and running, if it doesn't explicitly support Pro Tools, you're unlikely to get great performance.
